• Your blog as a weapon

A new bill has been introduce by Rep. Linda T. Sánchez (D-Ca) that could make it a felony to use your blog, website, Facebook, MySpace, or generally any online account in a way that would cause emotional distress on another person. The bill is called the “The Megan Meier Cyberbullying Prevention Act“.

It’s shocking that a bill like this can even get proposed. The fact that it can is a testament to how ignorant the politicians we elect are to the basic foundation of or nation. Have they not heard of the First Amendment? Did they not read the Constitution and the Bill of Rights before taking the oath of office?

An even more chilling thought is that they have read the First Amendment and the concept of the public having free speech bothers them. If people can openly talk about their disagreement with government, that might threaten their power. Why this very post could be viewed as causing “emotional distress” to Ms. Sánchez. Under this new bill, I could be quickly and easily silenced. What a wonderful tool for big government! This would be a big leap forward for those that love social fascism. If you love freedom… well, not so much.

Oh, and don’t give me the “think of the children” excuse. There is already a known way to prevent “cyberbullying”. It’s called parenting. There is no need for children and teens to be addicted to the internet. When they do go online, parents should know what they are doing and take responsibility. It’s not the government’s job to raise our children.
