• 1938 Life magazine quote…

I was looking through and scanning interesting pictures from a stack of old, vintage Life magazines and came across this little gem. I could not believe how this very quote can be applied to today’s current political atmosphere.

“The qualifications which make a successful dictator are simply those which make a successful mass leader. The essential difference between a dictatorship and a democracy is not in the leader, but in those led. Dictatorship rises not in the ambitions of a man, but in the despair of a people. If America gets a dictatorship it will not be because Franklin Roosevelt or any other man schemes it. It will be because the American people lose confidence in the ability of their political and business leaders to make life in a machine age bearable for men.”
