• Facebook unearthed

This is a bit “tinfoil hat” and slightly from the left, but worth taking note of. Facebook received tons in venture capital for one reason. “Data mining” is worth a fortune.  The more you say about yourself on social networks, the more marketing demographics you reveal and the more they can target advertising towards you and people like you. This makes for a very valuable business model. However, information about you is valuable for more than just advertising. As the lines between government and corporations grow more thin, it is not a far stretch to think this data could be valuable to (and even used by) entities outside of Facebook.

Regardless of what you think about this, it’s always a good idea to watch what you say or reveal on social networks. It doesn’t matter who is on your friends list or if the site is password protected or not, what you say/post online is the equivelant making public. There is always a chance it can be relayed or used in ways you never intended.
