    A “large family” movement

Wow, I’m almost speechless and yet have so much to say about this article and movement. I agree with parts of it and disagree with other parts of it. Either way, it’s a very interesting article to read.

It is a pro-life-purist lifestyle known as Quiverfull, where women forgo all birth-control options, viewing contraception as a form of abortion and considering even natural family planning an attempt to control a realm—fertility—that should be entrusted to divine providence.

Where do I even begin? Well, I believe that God wants more for women that being mothers and wives. Not that those roles are a bad thing of course, but women held jobs in the bible just as they do today. I do understand how someone could see any form of birth control as a means of deciding when procreation is convenient for one’s will and not relying on Him to decide that. However, I also feel that not every woman is meant to be a mother or a wife for that matter. So what happens in that situation if you are a Quiverfull follower? What would a woman do with her life if that happened to her?

I do certainly believe that the womens liberation movement has hurt this entire country in various ways, the biggest being the falling apart of the family structure. As with many organizations/movements in this country’s history, it’s something that started out doing a good thing, but has kept going to the other extreme. From what I see and read, there is a new growing movement for one parent to stay home with a child if at all possible (and it isn’t always the mom either). I get the feeling that people are coming to the realization that children need more of a family structure than what has been provided with both parents working and the child in daycare.

I don’t know if I fully agree with the theory of literally populating this earth with as many Christian children as possible. I’m a conservationist when it comes to the earth and I don’t think that adding more people to it is really going to help anything as we are already dealing with limited resources as it is now.

I guess I would say that this is just another example of how one part of the bible has been taken out of context and made into a way of life.
