• Global warming theory chilled

Discovery news has announced that the global warming theory is on hold. And by “on hold” they really mean that they can’t admit that they might be wrong. The article says “a cold winter, or a few strung together doesn’t mean the planet is cooling”. Well, that doesn’t exactly say it’s warming either, now does it?

I can’t really hammer Discover too much… although, I would really like to. It’s rather annoying that hardly a single one of their shows can make it though an episode without some reference to global warming. But this article makes an important admission; something that few liberal media outlets will do.

“Earth’s climate continues to confound scientists. Following a 30-year trend of warming, global temperatures have flatlined since 2001 despite rising greenhouse gas concentrations, and a heat surplus that should have cranked up the planetary thermostat.”

Discovery is really doing a good job by recognizing the facts. Scientists do not have a good grasp on all the factors that effect the global climate. While it is obvious that humans are not helping better our planet, there is far too little data to jump to the conclusion of man made global warming. In fact, our climate patterns show little deviation from what could be considered natural weather cycles.

I applaud mainstream media’s move toward accepting and reporting on some of the facts that expose loopholes in the global warming theories. Real science is about reporting the facts. In recent years, there has been a disturbing trend towards blacklisting scientists that do not agree with the politicized push of global warming. Research into sun cycles effecting earth’s climate have been all but swept under the rug. Instead of hard science, partial theories and knee jerk assumptions have been turned into scare tactics and fear mongering that further political agendas. Even this more “progressive” article has to end with a little saber rattling in a blatant show to prove they aren’t fulling admitting they might be wrong.

“When the climate kicks back out of this state, we’ll have explosive warming,” Swanson said. “Thirty years of greenhouse gas radiative forcing will still be there and then bang, the warming will return and be very aggressive.”

What really suffers from all this hype is real conservation. Popular focus has strayed from smaller issues that have a real and immediate impact on our environment. Instead of worrying about global temperatures creeping up, lets focus on issues like preventing the destruction of the natural habitats around you, protecting wildlife, and keeping our drinking water clean.
