• Global warming and health care – a scary combo

“Sorry, the doctor can’t see you today. He is worried about his carbon footprint.”

This could become a common saying in the UK and Europe, and possibly the US one day. It seems socialist governments are more than willing to sacrifice your health care in the name of global warming. Cutting meat off hospital menus to reduce carbon emissions is nothing more than asinine silliness triggered by a knee jerk reaction to global warming alarmists with ulterior anti-capitalist agendas. While completely pointless, we can live with being temporary vegetarians during hospital stays. However, look further into this proposal. The carbon reduction move also promotes more “phone-in GP surgeries”. I’m sorry, but the terms “phone-in” and “surgery” should not be used together in the same sentence. This just sounds flat out scary. If I am going in for surgery, I want a qualified doctor to be physically in the room performing the task at hand. As if that isn’t scary enough, it mentions more reuse of medical equipment. This in a day where staph infections are becoming a widespread problem in hospitals.

I will say that there is some good news in this crazy mess:

“If you’re going to get me radical I say the default place for health is in the home, and the person who delivers it is yourself: that’s the ultimate low-carbon health service,”

I don’t know about performing surgery on yourself while on a teleconference with your doctor, however, a move towards home health care is not a bad thing. I think people have become too reliant on doctors and the medical system. Many minor ailments can be self treated at home. The cases could be expanded with doctor consultation. In fact, a return to the neighborhood doctor making house calls would be a good thing overall.

Even a broken clock is right twice a day.
