Sometimes lists do come in handy
It’s about time that surgeons went back to basics. Dr. Atul Gawande and his surgery team created a checklist that can be used for any and all surgerys all over the world. It’s made up of simple yet very important items that the team found to be most often overlooked yet very vital. Dr. Atul Gawande felt moved to this due to all the mistakes that can and have happened in surgeries all over the world. And the checklist is working. It’s been implemented all over the world and is making an impact on surgical mistakes.
During the year of the study, the rate of major complications in operating rooms dropped by more than a third when the checklist was used — from 11 percent to 7 percent.
More importantly, deaths dropped by more than 40 percent when the checklist was introduced, from 1.5 percent to 0.8 percent, the researchers found.

Good to hear they are doing something about the mistakes.
Good communication is the key.
