• Wecome to the police state

In another case of big government at work for you, Florida Highway patrol will be randomly stopping motorists on Hillsborough and Pasco county roads. They need to “inspect” your vehicle and make sure it is “safe” to be on the highway. You know, they are immensely concerned about your well being. If you believe that, you may want to be extra concerned about these stops as you might be in need of some drug rehab. Let’s get to the real reasoning here. The state of Florida is facing a budget deficit and needs to generate income via “road taxes” (tickets). What better way to generate mass amounts of tickets than to randomly pull over motorists and “inspect” their vehicles until you find a ticketable offense? Tire treads a little low maybe? Well that’s a ticket!

What really makes a sad statement about our society is that the police can “randomly” stop and pull over people who have given no indication of wrongdoing and “inspect” their vehicle. Apparently this is legal as long as they post where their checkpoints will be. You know, detailed descriptions like “various county roads”. You might argue that this is acceptable as long as it is in the name of “safety”. How will you feel next year when you pop on the news and hear that the police will be “randomly” searching homes in your neighborhood? You know… to make sure you are “safe”.

Leave my “safety” to me, and as for everyone else, if you can’t see a violation, being pulled over is a violation of my rights.

Ironically, other states managed to solve the “safety” issue by having annual vehicle inspections at the convenience of the owner within certain time frames, gee that actually makes sense as an alternative to violating my personal rights in the name of “Safety”…
