Why is human trafficking still alive and well in the U.S.?
Human trafficking and sex slavery is still very alive and well in the U.S. even today according to the following article:
The woman, Maribel Rodriguez Vasquez, was the sixth member of her family to be rounded up in the two-year multi-agency investigation. Vasquez, five of her relatives and three other Guatemalan nationals were charged with 50 counts, alleging that they lured at least a dozen young women — including five minors as young as 13 years old — to the United States with promises of good jobs, only to put them to work as prostitutes. All remain in custody as investigators attempt to unravel the complex case.
This is just deplorable to think that this is still going on in this day and age. How sad and horrible it is to know that another human can be bought for $200 in any major city of the U.S. What’s wrong with this picture? Plenty. According to authorities, it’s very difficult to find these “rings” because the victims are scared, don’t speak the language, and don’t know their rights (rights as a victim).
