Constitution? What Constitution?
Obama just named Hillary Clinton as his secretary of state pick. This is interesting since it poses a Constitutional conundrum. The US Constitution states:
“No Senator or Representative shall, during the Time for which he was elected, be appointed to any civil Office under the Authority of the United States which shall have been created, or the Emoluments whereof shall have been increased during such time; and no Person holding any Office under the United States, shall be a Member of either House during his Continuance in Office.”
However, this poses a problem for Clinton or any senator:
Durring Clinton’s current term in the Senate, the salary for Cabinet officers was increased from $186,600 to $191,300. Since the salary is scheduled to again be raised in January 2009, not only Clinton but all sitting Senate members could be considered constitutionally ineligible to serve in Obama’s Cabinet.
It will be interesting to see how Obama will choose to slip around this… or if the entire issue (for that matter, the Constitution) will be swept under the rug. Afterall, the documents that founded this nation are only good as the people’s will to obide by them.
Update: Like I said… the Constitution doesn’t really mean anything anymore.

They shouldn’t be paid that much money.
Why do they need so much money?
They are already getting special treatment and other benefits just for being who they are in their high positions.
Maybe because DC’s cost of living is so extravagant?
Wonder what the old white house would look like if our “servants” didn’t get paid. Think on that.
Well, Obama will tax them all anyways I guess.
Right?
I’m suspicious of Hillary. She is now brown-nosing a person she cut down for so long in her attempt to dominate the white house. Politics or not, I find her two-faced in order to satisfy her self-aggrandizement. Not impressed with her at all.
I think a candidate should stop attacking the opponent and start talking about what they plan to do to find solutions to the problems of this country. She plays the game instead of stepping out and doing things differently. Barbara Walters would do a better job as President.
I don’t know. . . .I don’t trust people who publicly, blatantly, obviously change their tune. Is anyone else seeing the same thing?
Or are all of us under the carpet (with the Constitution)?
